Application Of Diamond in Field Emission Display

Field Emission Display (FED) is a new type of self-luminous flat panel display.
Diamond has a relatively low work function, and electrons are easier to pass through the surface barrier to become field-emitted electrons. This is the most important condition for being a field-emission cathode. In addition, diamond film also has a series of excellent properties, such as extremely high hardness, excellent thermal conductivity, good light permeability, stable chemical properties, etc., which are all favorable conditions for field emission cathodes. Therefore, the use of diamond film as a cold cathode has become one of the research hotspots, and considerable results have been achieved.
It should be pointed out that high-quality diamond is almost non-conductive, and it is difficult to make it directly used as a cathode for field emission displays. Currently, diamond-like carbon films or diamond films doped with N, H and other elements are used as field emission cathodes. Nowadays, in most practical researches, diamond-like carbon films with high sp3 content and doped with N, H and other elements are generally used as field emission materials.
Cold cathode field emission display combines the advantages of various current displays, and its prospects are unanimously optimistic about it, and it is regarded as the "star of tomorrow" of the display.
